Meet the kids

We have so many kids there’s just not enough room to fit them all on this page! So we thought we would feature a couple of our biggest characters every month and tell you their stories, and how CCPP is helping them and their families.

Phy Tong

Tong is a wonderful 12 year old boy who has been with CCPP for less than a year. His family moved to the Sihanoukville area in hope of work and were until recently getting by selling soft drinks and snacks to tourists while living in their shop/shack by the beach. The family were evicted from their home in January and CCPP were able to help by securing them land to rebuild their home. As the family are unable to generate enough income to feed Tong and his 5 siblings CCPP help them with weekly rice donations and full school sponsorship for Tong and his brothers and sisters.

Tong is one of our most positive and happy children despite his family’s situation. His smile says it all!

Thoun Teth

Teth is a 13 year old boy from the Sihanoukville area. He has been coming to the project for three years now, and used to collect cans and bottles along the beach all day, and many times late into the night. His safety was a major concern to CCPP so with help from our social workers we were able to curb this behaviour by working closely with his family. Teth’s family were evicted from their home in 2006 but CCPP was able to build them a new home in a safer area.

With the aid of CCPP, Teth is now able to contribute to his families’ income, selling his great paintings. Teth was a very troubled child with violent tendencies but is a perfect example of how art is therapy. He now attends school full time and is a joy to be around. Teth has never been happier!

Tong Trop

Trop is an 8 year old girl from the Takeo province. Trop’s story is not a happy one. Her mother died when she was young and her father is an absent alcoholic. Her oldest sister Tong Ho looks after the well being of Trop and her 6 brothers and sisters, as well as 2 cousins. With the help of CCPP Trop now lives in a safe home with access to clean water and electricity.

With the aid of CCPP, Trop and all her siblings attend school full time and her sister is now our resident cook and helper. The family are a joy to be around. We look forward to helping Trop achieve all that she deserves!
