The Art!

In keeping with the grass roots approach, our NGO has always made the art a major focus. Here at the CCPP Centre, beach and street kids are encouraged to stop by the centre (we have a completely open door policy), sit down and express themselves any way they want through our daily activities such as painting, drawing and other creative outlets.

We believe that providing a child with the opportunity to develop his/her artistic expression, especially in early childhood, is a critical factor in the child’s social and psychological development. Children need to be imaginative, innovative and proud of their own creative skills.

Visit our photo gallery to see a selection of their art work. We have some amazing young resident artists who have really developed their talent into something special!

As well as the art being a great way to interact with the children there is also a practical side to their efforts. Most of our regularly attending children no longer sell their bracelets and wares along the beach as the gallery lends them an opportunity to generate money to help support their families through the sale of their paintings. Paintings are sold for $4. $2 goes to the child’s family, and $2 goes into CCPP’s communal education fund which we use to offer all our children a chance to attend Khmer school, paying school fees and providing uniforms, bags, books and pens and any ongoing costs associated with attending full time.

Social Outreach program

Our staff now consists of two full-time social workers who work as outreach officers working with the families of our kids. It is imperative that CCPP understands the family situation, living conditions and reasons behind why the children are not at school and hustling for money . Many times it is the family that is dependent on the child to earn the money for food and shelter. Our staff social workers enable us to work together with the families, helping them to understand of the benefits of attending CCPP and receiving an education.

School sponsorship

Education is and will remain a major focus of our project. All our children who are registered with us now attend the local Khmer school full time, with the help of our school sponsorship program. Our Communal Education Fund is funded from the sales from our gallery and through this money we are able to pay school fees and provide uniforms, bags, books and pens and cover any ongoing costs associated with attending full time. Since many of our kids have never gone to school, we also offer daily tutoring so that they’re able to catch up to their appropriate grade. We also act as a go-between for foreigners who would like to financially sponsor a child to attend private English and computer schools in the local area.

In-house Education program

English lessons
English is becoming more and more the language of choice by employers in Sihanoukville, a fast growing tourist destination by the sea. CCPP see the importance of this second language for future employment opportunities for our kids so we now offer two conversational English classes a day, One for beginners and one for intermediate students who cannot afford to attend English school.

Computer lessons
Thanks to the generous donation of 16 laptops from our friends in Australia at Market Research International we are now able to put computing classes on the schedule! We are currently looking to purchase a suite of educational games and activities for the kids and hope to eventually have the money to hire a Khmer computer teacher to train our boys and girls in skills such as typing, basic book-keeping and, for the more advanced teens, graphic design.

Food, medical, dental and hygiene

CCPP provide two nutritious meals a day to our often malnourished children, prepared by our resident chef Tong Ho.

We also provide medical assistance and dental care to all and daily undertake hygiene lessons with the kids in regards to looking after their health to prevent sickness and visits to the dentist (see photo).

The enthusiasm of after lunch teeth brushing needs to be seen to be believed!

CCPP also provides children with clothing when required and all kids are provided footwear. Now we have a washing machine, it is kept busy with the daily loads of school uniforms we keep neat and tidy for the children. We need new washing lines to keep up with the demand!
